Default PCV Question

I've got a 2000 neon with 77k on it. I was doing some routine maintanence on it today and was going to change the pcv valve as part of that. Well, the threaded metal piece that the valve screws into has broken loose from the valve cover and just turns when you try to unscrew the pcv valve. I tried holding it tight with needle nose plyers, but with there only being maybe 2mm or room to hold it, that didn't work. So, is there an easy way of getting it out? or is it not even worth if for a $5 vavle? I'm not mechanically inclinced enough to take the valve cover off, so that's out of the question. Any ideas or thoughts?

Valve cover is easy to come off... as long as the gasket doesn't stick to the head, then it is re-usuable. If you can change a PCV, you can take the VC on and off. If i had your issue the VC would be the first thing to take off and find the problem.

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question, is the valve cover all plastic, which it does appearto me that it is, or is it a piece of metal coated in plastic?

It's metal coated in plastic... I've personally sandblasted the plastic off the VC down to the metal in order to paint.

There is no way i would have got the paint to stick to that plastic. Think of it like truck bed liner... Thick and durable. It was a PITA to blast it all off.
