Vent Selector Knob
I did a search and came up with nothing similar to this, so I'll ask you guys.
The selector **** for my vents/defrosters won't let me turn it to defrost. It'll turn . . . but then it turns itself back to one notch behind the floor/defrost combo setting. It feels like I'm turning the **** against something which is then forcing it back when I let go. Also, when I turn it to the dash vent only setting, it turns itself back one notch . . . not near as bad as the defrost setting, but still odd.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Dan

Fixed . . .
I pulled the cover off that part of the dash and pulled the panel with all the ***** out to find the cable for that **** was bent. Straightened it out with a pair of pliers and it works fine now.
Thanks to anyone who thought about it at all.

this is a little off the subject, but it still makes me laugh now..
the other switch (don't know how far back they have these, I have a 04), the one I call a "skunk" switch... it switches the air between fresh and re-circ.?...
I only use it maybe, in the Summer to get the AC going max, then switch it back...or if I see a skunk in the road or some car/truck puttin out alot of smoke. Seems to help when I switch to recirc, doesn't draw the smell or smoke in the car... then I switch it back.
What makes me laugh is people that I will pass on the freeway, usually a high humidity rainy day, and they are furiously trying to wipe off thier interior windows while driving, wondering why everything is fogging up on the inside..DUH!.. they have the switch on re-circ!

i have a very similar problem if not that exact same problem. when i try to defrost the windows it only will do it (defrost only) if it is on vent. Then if i try to switch it to recirculate the defrost **** pops up to defrost and bottom heat (i think thats what its called)
Check behind the panel for the first part of your problem. That's wheremy problemwas. There's a little gear on the back of the **** that moves a grooved lever . . . maybe that gear slipped on you and your settings are messed up now.
I think the second part of your post isnormal . . . maybe a safety thing, anyone know? Mine does the same thing when I have it on defrost and switch to recirculate . . . and it's done it since I bought the thing.

[sm=icon_rtfm.gif]it says why it does this in there
Too many different terms for the same ****. I think we're all confused now . . . or maybe just me. I'm just happy I fixed my problem, haha.
I know you can't deFOG your window with recirculate on . . . because you need to cycle the humid air out of the car. But you can deFROST your window either way. They probably rigged the **** to do that to keep people from getting pissy about their windows not deFOGGING with the recirculate setting selected.
