Default ANOTHER VERY VERY IMPORTANT MS Q!!!!

ok, ok, ok.... i know i have asked alot of questions about ms, but this one is prolly THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE, for me living in ny.... as most of u know ny is one of the hardest states to get passed for emissions... so my question is, when i run ms on my car is it going to....

1. pass emissions test
2. trip ANY MONITORS ON
3.kick any check engine lights on
4. if yes to ANY of these questions....... how can i use this system and still beable to scan my stock ecu once a year????? (such as can i unplug the ms, and run it off of my stock ecu once a year)

becasue i do NOT want to use the ms if i can not ever get it to pass emitions and drive it on the street....

just a quick reference on what has to be done for ny state emission...

the car has got to have NO check engine lights on.....
the car must not have any monitors setas"NOT READY".... (must be "ready")

now that i read this post, the ms as not a piggy back system, so it really does not run off the stock ecu..... or that is what my friend tells me that has the MS2......

so spikey, rt, and the rest of u I NEED UR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i do not want to spend money on something that granted will benifit me, but on the flip side cost me a **** load of money in the long run!!!!!!!!!!

on a side note, can you get an emmisions exempt sticker in NY? i live in PA and theres a law here that states that if you spend $150 or more trying to make it pass, and it wont, then you can get an exempt sticker for that year. so what most shops do is throw on a cat and if it wont pass, then they give you a sticker anyway. if something like that applies in NY then you know you can pass by spending a certain amount of extra money every year and if its something that you really want, then it might be OK for you.

^^ yeah, but it is a six HUNDRED dollar attempt

alright guys. i really need ur help on this.... i found out from a guy in rochester that did a 2.4 swap in his neon. and in NY i can not get it to pass emissions,

saying that...... when it comes to inspection time can i just unplug the ms from the back of the ecu, have my stock computer mounted back up and plug it back in once a year, drive the car around town like a little old man, to get the monitors ready, inspect it, and replug the ms back in......

i am not sure if it is going to be that easy.... but some how i highly dout it.........

or will i have to unwire the car, then wire it BACK UP every fing year??????

ok technically if you do everything perfectly and tune it right, you can tune your car too pass emmisions. it will take a lot of trial and error and would be nice if you had a machine to tune with to see if you are helping the problem. or you could just keep failing and changing your map until its fixed. i don't think that anyone has actually went to the trouble to do it, but it can be done. on the no code thing, i had no codes because i wired up a dummy coil pack and set of injectors to the computer. that fooled it and my cel finally went away. an idea for when you are hooking it up, which is something i wished i did was to put weatherproof connectors when you are hooking up the ms so that you can easily swap back if you have a problem or something else arises. even if you think you will never have to take it out, it is still a good idea because you never know. i had to take out and rewire my megasquirt at least three times and it would have been a lot simpler if i had just been able to unhook a clip and plug another one in its place.

you will always have a CEL with MS... Once they hook up the OBDII scanner you are F'd. Especially since the are doing away with the sniffer and solely using the OBDII check very soon.

so to start i HAVE to rewire this damn thing every time i take it to get it inspected??????????????? that is honestly a turn off to me off of the ms...... now i worked with the greddy emanage (P.O.S.) but that was more of a piggy back system... and was running off the stock ecu....

anyway i have not honestly looked at the wiring for the ms yet.... but am i going to beable to just unplug the back of the ms and plug in my stock ecu???? andwill it run???? or will i have to discontect all the ms every year??????????? if i can just unplug and plug back in i will go that way...... but if i have to disconect it every time i have to get it inspected.... well that is just a pain in the ***

well what you could do is leave the PCM in there but you would have to figure out a way to have the MS take complete control over the engine and functions.... ie. you would have to disconnect any output signals the PCM would send out... excluding the CEL output and the OBD II coding system.... not sure how you would do that but in theory it should work.... if i were you i'd find a shop with a Dyno that knows the ins and outs of MS and goto them and ask some questions...

problem if i do that, my monitors will not be ready.... and just becasue the CEL is not on, does not mean the car will pass emissions in NY... kinda gay if u ask me... i was thinking last night, and i run my safc now, i will drive the car down with the safc, get it inspected, then drive it home and start the ms install..... then i will make sure to have disconects like mike said so all i have to do is unplug and plug back in when i get around inspection time..... my inspection date is usually when i get my car out of the garage, so i can just unplug it during the winter, then install it before i start running the hell out of it..... so i guess i am still going ms......
