Neon Stalls while driving, Power gone
Hi there,
I got a big problem with my 2004 Dodge Neon SE and no shop could find out the reason yet:
While driving my Neon in rather low RPMs or even normal city traffic it just stalls andthe power goes out (incl. Power stearing, lights etc). In addidtion I now recognize a light ticking noise in coming from the engine while it sits.
It would start right back up. It now does it now every about 10miles so it is really not bearable.
There are only useless codes in the computer and nobody has found any mechanical failure yet.
I hope one of you guys has an idea with that and can help me,
Thanks

any aftermarket audio system? might want to check the power cable from the batery to the fuse box in the engine compartment. I had stalling at low RPMs and whil driving, the warning lights would flicker and go out.. they it would stall.. it was grounding itself out
NeonOn19s,
Thanks for your reply.
I only have the standard audio system in there so far. Unfortunately, my lights don't even flicker...everything just snaps out.
Oneguy actually said something about a low battery code, but he ruled it out as the cause of the defect.
Thanks,
Matt

well its interesting that it just starts back up. The ticking noise...thats a symptom of alternators going bad if its coming from that. I mean, ticking can be anything but as far as electric power goes...the alternator is the only thing that relates that I know of. But the fact that it starts up...idk. Haha, lose cable? idk, i guess a mechanic would be able to figure that one out but you never know.
I'm having the exact same problem and mine just started two days ago. I was waiting at a stop light and my carshut down as if there was no power what so ever and then the car started back up. Not even a minute later it did it again when I stopped so I took it to the shop. They said it was a ground wire but then later that day it did it 4 more times within a 5 minute period, twice while driving, once when waiting at a light, and another as I was taking off so it's back in the shop. Oh and mine was making a weird buzzing/ticking noise also, it almost sounded like it was coming from the steering wheel area. They are doing a diagnostic test and what not tomorrow and checking the wiring harness so hopefully they figure it out. I'll let you know what the deal is and maybe its the same thing. Let me know what you find out also.
I have a 05' neon sxt.....it only has 27,000 and luckily is still under warrenty. I just got the car maybe a month ago.

don't know, i had it happen to me once but i think it was a bad tank of gas. Filled up at my normal station (shell) and no probs since. Taylor not sure on your prob but wolf how many miles on yours?

My Neon is 65000 Miles.
I took it now to a dodge dealer, as they are really now valid error codes in the computer memory they assume something with the general power supply is wrong. So theyare currently checking the cables and distributor to see if they are causing the problem.
Otherwise they are considering to replace the computer, which would be covered under warrenty.
I keep you posted.
Thanks
