I was looking at howell and i wanted to get the afx race computer. i had enuff money untill i saw a 150 dolla core charge. what is this for? are there any places where i can get one cheaper.
The core charge is so that you return your stock one to them. If you don't they keep the money, if you return your stock computer then they give you that core charge back
maybe out of topic, but why doesn't someone develop a computer more suited to a turbo application? I understand that the aftermarket computer(s) run rich in an FI environment, or do I have that wrong?
Don't forget, the computer that Howell sends you is USED but the programming is new. They are way too expensive (really it costs $525-540). Mopar's computers are cheaper; I wish I could get one of those. I looked at the first gen Mopar computer and it was like half the price. The problem is, I have a 2000 Dodge Neon. They haven't created a computer for those (2nd Generation Neons) yet.[&:]
I don't think Mopar has a core charge either.
if i get one for 20 bucks do i have to pay the core charge?
I would immagine that if you sent them the PCM when you ordered they would not charge you for the core.

Thats a very good question, I asked the same one a while ago. I have not seen anyone that reprograms them other than howell, maybe they can do a custom fuel map on one of there PCMs, so that you can use it for a turbo. With the stock PCM, the rev limiter and speed limiters are stock, which sux. the only way that I have seen so far, is to get rid of the PCM and goto seperate engine mangement system, which is not cheap.
