Cool Car On A Hot Day
i never changed the coolant on my 2000... new in 99. 100k miles. it takes the green stuff, i think. it seems fine and tested ok. im just too lasy to change it, i have 4 gallons coolant in my garage waiting for me to get off the PC and work on her.
my 05 takes the orange stuff, is it dexcool?? i thought that was for GM cars.

No it is not Dexcool, I screwed up earlier when I suggested it (I was thinking of my Cutlass, a GM so you are correct).
I used a $2 bottle of Prestone cooling system flush, then bought a jug of 50/50 mix Prestone Extended Life (they say you can mix/add this stuff to ANY type of coolant), and I bought a jug of the same Prestone stuff but 100% concentrated. Dumped in the entire jug of 50/50, then dumped in the 100% concentrated until everything was topped off... doing the math, I figure the 50/50 and then the 100%I added probably brought the combined mixture up to around 67% or so... which puts it in the -84 degree freeze protection and +276 degreeb boiling protection that Prestone claims with a 70/30 mixture. I also did it this way usingall the 50/50and some of the 100 because I didn't want to use any tap water or a garden hose for the final fill... I wanted it to beasclean and uncontaminated as it could possibly be...BTW, the new Prestone stuff if basically a yellow/green color, and it is ethylene and diethylene glycol based, just like Chrysler wants.... stuff is supposed to be good for 5 years or 150,000 miles.
Chrysler has this to say about the cooling system in our Neons but the Prestone covers all these issues:
"The use of aluminum cylinder heads, and water
"Some coolant manufactures use other types of glycols

"The use of aluminum cylinder heads, and water
pumps requires special corrosion protection. Mopar
t
Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula or
equivalent ethylene glycol based coolant with corrosion
inhibitors (called HOAT, for Hybrid Organic
Additive Technology) is recommended. This coolant
offers the best engine cooling without corrosion when
mixed with 50% Ethylene Glycol and 50% distilled
water to obtain a freeze point of -37°C (-35°F). If it
loses color or becomes contaminated, drain, flush,
and replace with fresh properly mixed coolant solution.
Mixing of coolants other than specified (non-
HOAT), will reduce the 5 year/100,000 mile corrosion
protection.""Some coolant manufactures use other types of glycols
into their coolant formulations. Propylene glycol
is the most common new coolant. However, propylene
glycol based coolants do not provide the same freezing
protection and corrosion protection and is not recommended."
um wow, yeah get creative and go buy a hole plug from an auto parts store, or Home Depot, its like 2 bucks. I guess my question is more importantly... how the heck did your motor burn a freakin hole in the tank????? Exhaust manifold come loose from the head or something? Before you fix the tank I think I would investigate the cause of the problem first!

say my motor burned a hole in my coolant overflow tank is there anything to put in to seal the hole

He put acid in his reservoir. LOL. "Hey what did one reservoir say to the other?... Pull my hose". Thats how he got the hole in there. LOL I cant believe this thread is on its 3rd page.

Iowa you and I both know someone will ask this same or similar question soon. So if/when they do lets answer by posting the link to this thread.
