Drain Oil for Oil Change?

Um yeah, not good. Water left in the crankcase + running engine = eat your bearings and rings starting now.

I've heard of people adding a quart of atf to their oil and let it run for an hour and shut it off and drain it because the atf breaks down oil to a silver really thin substance which takes out all the sludge in the engine.

The old-timers used to do that all the time. Tranny fluid is an EXCELLENT detergent, and between it and it's thin viscousity, it makes as a good motor flush (if you suspect you need it).
