well what about the guy that says its the powersterring pump pully? The sound is annoying and i am sure u can fix it without rebuilding the whole motor.

 

If it is the PS pump then yes. 90% of neons out there have a tick at idle, its an internal noise, meaning tear the motor apart. Take an automotive stethescope and listen to see where the noise is comming from. If you don't have one a small pipe or something like that will work.

 

hey im new to this also,
i own a 99 neon adn i never had that problem but my mothr owns a 02 neon sxt 5speed her engine startd to do that aftr she put a intake in it,,we keepd lossing speed wen we drove adn it would clik realy loud and make a loud bang,,,so we put new plugs,wires, adn belts,,i also found out that sumn ppls neons cant runn off high performance plugs 4 some reason os you must use the cheap kind,,,

 

yeah my neon had the same problem and we found out that one of the wires under the hood looked like it had been chewed on and that someone had put platinum plugs in it too. cant do that, run some ngk plugs and msd wires with it and it will do fine. of course that is not related to the same tick they are talking about though. mine still has the tick and it is hardly noticeable to other peopl but then again you notice everything on your own car.

 

Well... just did breaks new calipers, rotors, and pads. I guess wires and plugs are in the works for next and replacements on upper and lower hoses and eventually a new belts and water pump. Had a mechanic listen to it and he said nothing was wrong. I crawled underneath the car and i could hear the clicking noise more. Witch is making me assume its coming from a lower pully via the crankshaft pully or aircompresser pully. It doesnt efect the cars speed very much im asuming since i have smoked numorous s10's and legends and lancers. Oh yea also i got some new tires bridgestone r50 fuzions. Anygood or what please give me some input.


P.S. Has anyone ever heard of a timing belt breaking on a 01 neon?
