problems with 2005 dodge neon SXT
About a month ago when I put the car from reverse to drive the cel came on. I didn't have a problem until now. Now the oil light is on and a solid circle light is on. I checked the oil, it was low. I added oil. Both lights are still on. The cel light is still on. The code that came up was P 0340.
Also, sometimes, the car won't let me go over 2 rpm. When I say it "won't" I mean it starts chuging and won't go over. Eventually the speed increases but not the rpms. Other times I don't have a problem with it.
In the last couple of days it hasn't been starting properly. I have to pump the gas and after pumping 2-4 times it usually starts.
Any help you guys can give me will be put to good use. Thank you

That code means you're getting no signal from your camshaft position sensor. Probably a bad sensor. $35 part at Auto Zone. It bolts right on to the driver's side of the engine block, next to the battery and air filter box. The only tricky part is getting to it with all the A/C lines and other crap in the way, but the whole thing took me under an hour taking my time and with no experience. It's even easier if you remove the battery tray and air box first. 4 bolts, and no mechanical experience needed.
And your car won't rev past 2k rpm because it's in "limp mode." This is a protective feature designed to keep the engine speed low to prevent any major damage in case your timing is blown. It will go away when you replace the sensor. It will do it intermittantly until then.
When I first bought my car (same as yours, 05 SXT), it had the same problem. It's run perfectly since I replaced the sensor. I highly suggest you invest the $35 in the new sensor and leave yourself a couple hours to change it just in case you have more trouble getting to the bolts than I did. I would bet that it will take all your lights off, but on mine, the only light on, I think, was the CEL.
Here's the part you need

I would replace the cam sensor. and you also should not have to pump the gas to get it to start. that has no affect on whether or not the car won't start. you only have to do that on carbureted cars.

I replaced the cam position sensor and now a new code came up P 0038. The cam sensor fixed the rpm problem. I think my starter is bad but since i pur the cam sensor in I haven't had any problems starting the dodge yet.
Thank you for the answer to one problem.

From the Dodge Shop Manual:
P0038-O2 SENSOR 1/2 HEATER CIRCUIT HIGH
When Monitored: Battery voltage above 10.6 volts, ASD is powered up, and O2 heater is
off.
Set Condition: The O2 heater voltage is out of range high. One trip fault.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
O2 SENSOR HEATER OPERATION
O2 HEATER ELEMENT
O2 HEATER GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
O2 SENSOR
O2 HEATER CONTROL SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
O2 HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN
PCM
Looks like you need to check the O2 sensor heater. If you'd like, you can PM me your email address and I can send you information about the whole O2 system on the Neon.
