Just so you know contagious Mobil one is NOT FULLY SYNTHETIC anymore. They went to a grade 3 oil which is junk. I think there is a thread on here showing those results. Thats why I did my research and switched to AMSOIL. To be honest I no longer have any ticks and the car runs smoother and cooler as well.

If you start your car in the winter then driving it right away, it's 100times better to use full synthetic. I can't remember why though...Something about maintaining it's original viscosity better even when it's freezing out.

Yeah, never really liked Mobil1 and that kinda topped it off. Amsoil, Royal Purple and I believe Redline are actual full synthetics. I have used Amsoil and currently use Royal Purple; both are top quality oils. I hear Redline is the same.

Now that it's winter here...for the first 5 minutes or so after I start it, it's like starting a volkswagon. Sounds like a little diesel motor...and I bet it wakes everyone up in my apartment building. I might as well put a "Diesel only!" sticker on my gas door.

My neon made a ticking sound dealership replace the whole bottom end. Pistons, rings, etc. cured the ticking for about a yr, now ticks mostly on cold starts, but very low.

I'm using 5W-20 GTX.
There is a tick for about 30 seconds on a cold start, then after the car warms up a bit the ticking seems to be gone.
When it is ticking on start, its hardly audible.

@ pasgaines:
Where exactly did you read that in the owners manual? I didn't see anything about that.

Mine ticks for about first minute, pretty much just while the idle is high. After it warms up a tad it quiets down. Pretty much only does it when its cold out. I use full synthetic and quit using Mobil 1 long time ago because its junk.

Seems to be that the tick for most is when the car starts from a cold start.

Temp and miles. I've got 184k km on mine. I bet everyones neon that doesn't tick, will tick around the same mileage...especially if driven hard. I drive my car hard and alot of high rpm sprees. I don't race, but I show people my neon is faster then whatever they have hehehe. From turbo Jetta's, to big deisels I seem to own their *** with my little neon. Especially with my atx 2.0...I really don't understand. I just throw it in second and rev the **** out of it. Either noone can shift around here...or they make cars slower in canada haha.
