Lets have a poll...does your neon tick?
As stated...I hear most neons tick, but the cause of it remains a mystery because there are many different claims out there.
Let's hear how yours ticks, what you think its from, and if you know how to repair it.
I have been told that it is either
a) Piston slap caused from lazy workers at dodge plant making the pistons just a few thousandths of a inch smaller then they should have been.
b) Faulty knock sensor/timing/computer causing the spark to ignite at the wrong time.
c) From my experience with taking apart my engine I believe it is actually the lash adjusters on the rocker arms. They seem to wear out REALLY fast and create a gap between it and the spring. New ones if filled properly with oil will pump(stroke length) till they are all the way out, the old ones will pump till about 75-90% compared to the new ones and you can still pull them out a bit more but this cannot be recreated in the motor, just with your fingers(Catch me?). And some original ones will pump till full SOMETIMES. Then again I know people who have replaced ALL rocker arms/lash adjusters and their car still ticks...so I dunno.
Either way my neon ticks, I have been told my multiple ignorant people that my car is going to blow up...I know my bearings and rods/pins are all sound, but I am definately looking for the right fix to come around so I can get rid of this headache.

The natouris neon tick. Well contagious every neon i have ever heard ticks. Its very quiet can't hear while in the vehicle. Mine does it all the time and it doesn't mean my motors gonna throw a rod lol. Most noticeable on first start up but quickly goes almost silent.
yea that tick can be a pain in the @$$ for sure makes me nervous as all hell when i start it up cold but I'm not at all worried about it b/c I've seen ticking neons last for 200k miles so im not worried about too much...

lol nice ticks guys.
yeah mine does that tick too but only when i start it say at 4-6 in the morning but it only last for a few seconds.
also it just started doing the tick thing back last winter which was at probably 55K miles.

I'm wondering if there is a way to correct this. Maybe when I plan on throwing in new pistons in the summer I'll go a bit bigger if they will fit. Has anyone put aftermarket pistons in their neon that is oversized? I seen somewhere selling them and they stated no cylinder boring was needed...maybe thats a clue.
