Default Why is my HEAT only lukewarm?

2000 4cylinder, 5 spd wtih 116k miles.
The heater only blows out semi warm air, it won't give me any hot air. This really sucks when it's so cold this winter. I replaced the rad. thermostat thinking that might have been the problem but no dice!

Any ideas on what to do?

No, no signs or odd smells at all. Doesn't leak any fluids either. The AC works perfect. Matter of fact when i turn it to front window defrost the recirc **** automatically moves to fresh air and the air hitting the window seems to be colder, almost like the AC gets turned on!

So you think it's the heater core or does my info discount that?
Why does a heater core go bad, where's it located and is it costly and difficult to replace? I do most of my own wrenching and maintenance as long as it's not too bad.

No didn't replace radiator, just the thermostat. The temp reads about 1/4 of the way up the temp guage, seems normal to me.
