Default Carputer

Hello out there has anyone tried to install a car pc in their neon? If so would you have any pics? I'm looking for something where I can have all my music, gps , internet, and be removable so I can easily work on it not looking for a gaming monster just a simple Ubuntu box.
Thanks!

Its not that crazy just think about it...Gps, mp3, internet. A HUD that can display all you stats oil pressure, RPMs. Think about all the possibilities. Plus it would just be cool.

Do you mean like keeping people from stealing it (the pc) or as a security device? If you mean someone stealing it with a motorized screen that when closed looks no different than a regular headunit, plus even if they did take the screen they wouldnt be able to get the pc, and even if they did get the pc you could set it up so after so many password attempts it locks up the pc. As for using it as a security system IDK if there is software for it or not. Ill look into it.

As for using it for a security system I couldn't find anything. Somebody might be smart and try that. But as far as security for the pc all of these http://www.download.com/windows/privacy-software/?tag=ltcol;nav could work.

yea dude.we had a guy not to long ago(cant think of the name)and his trunk got knocked in and subs got stolen.so people shave the trunk and have security systems.i'd imagine your pc will be close to or well over 500 so i'd be safe.like they glove it before you love it.

i have a friend the the bottom of a laptop, just the key bord and memory.. i was thinking about trying to use that and somehow attach it to the headunit somehow.... the laptop part of it would be mounted in the glove box.... or under the seat, so when i need to tune i can just pull it out and away i go.... it is just a thought for me.... butttt.... i really dont need the computer in the car execpt for tuning, sooo i dont know if it will ever happen or not....

any idea if u can use a headunit tv flip out style as a monitor? do they have the hookups to do it? i am not a huge computer person so i really dont know antthing about it

They make a VGA touch screen that made for carputers (yes thats what they call them) and fits in a single din slot just like any headunit. And the computer would look like a amp and even have power\ground and a remote line to turn it on. You can even add a valet switch so it wont come on when you start the car and so it wont go off when you turn the car off. Also laptops are not goo for cars the power supply cant take the stress of going on and off... plus when the car starts it takes most of the 12v am I right? That would put alot of strain on the power supply.
