Default What is the best performance addition bang for the buck?

What I mean is what modification gives the best performance gain, it is filter, intake, exhaust, chip, computer upgrade, cam, port and polish (yeah right), etc...

I'm looking to purchase a chip for my '01 Neon SE for a mild performance gain, but may consider otherwise.

Also, If you've put a chip or computer in your vehicle do you think it gained you much and did it adversly affect MPG?

Thanks,
Eric

I don't think any one by itself will give you a significant gain that you will feel. But with some combined, like intake and exhaust, will help more than one of them by itself. What kind of chip are you talking about. Hopefully not the ones off of Ebay. just my 2 cents here.

No, I don't buy used electronics - especially off E-Bay.

I was wondering if anyone had good luck with programmers, I don't have one in mind, in fact I'm not even sure what's available for the Neons. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the subject.

I have heard that the computers are the best upgrade you can do basically. It will raise your rev limiter and eliminate your top speed. So if you swap in a diff cam and it allows you rev your car more you'll be able to...whereas you may be restricted a bit by the factory pcm. The computer is just a much more aggressive tune then the factory one. I have not tried it on mine because there currently is not pcm upgrade for 03 and up neons unfortunately.[&:][:@]

All those upgrades are good ideas. The best would be either an intake and exhaust, or the PCM. Really all of them would be the best.

Howell Automotives computers are too expensive + they are used cores that also come with a core charge[:'(]. I wish they had a Mopar computer for my car. I believe Mopar's are new cores; they are like half the price. I'm waiting / hoping Mopar will come out with one soon.

I found it, thought it was funny and there it is. Does it offend you? LOL. I could change it.

no, it's funny, just odd. Like the red headed step child scenario.
