Default Tach and Computer Problems

I just bought a tach for my 2003 Dodge Neon SE since it didn't come with one stock. But my friend and I haven't been able to find the computer so that we can install the tach. I removed the entire from dash and I don't see it. I haven't done a lot of work with cars so I'm pretty new to this. Where can I find the computer/ECU?

they are tricky.. prolly would be easier to call the dealer and ask but if they don't know im sure you can find it online some where.... u can try the repair guide on the AutoZone website. i seen the behind the bump and even inside the dash hidden... they place them all over the car i dunno why.

all you need to do is find the tach wire, the haynes manual has the wire color codes

So you're saying it might be infront of or near the driver's side front tire? The ECU is like a silver box correct? Like an inch thick and close to 5x8 inches?

i am in the situation as you, i have an se and bought a tach, but you need to buy a tach adapter to get it to work, me and this mechanic from the dodge dealership in my town worked on it. we could only get it to read half rpm when hooked up to what i think was the coil, not sure, but he had the whole wiring map for the whole car.

Mine is on the drivers fender well on my 98. I had the same problem with my tach, it only read half rpm. Neons have a dual coil pack, so you can't run the pickup to the coil. I have mine connected to the wire from the PCM and its fine with no tach adapter. Some tachs do require an adapter, but that varys brand to brand.

It is all plug and play. They are the same plug and all the wiring is there and hooked up.
