2000 Gas Mileage?
Hi all this is my first post and I need some help. I have a 2000 neon LX 2.0L I have had it for 5 years now and from day one it has got bad gas mileage. I had it in the shop many times when it was under warranty for this issue and they never found anything. So when the warranty expired I thought I would bring it in for the same issue and see what they could find at a diff shop. The 2nd shop could not find anything either. This used to be just an annoyance when gas was 55cents per liters but at 98 cents per liter it really bugging me. I driver 140km per day so it adds up quick one resin I bought this car back then was the fuel mileage 28/35 highway I am not anywhere near that. Can anyone suggest what might be the prob I don’t drive that hard I try to keep it under 3000 rpm and almost never go over 4000 rpm. I am currently getting 22mpg for an economy car that is horrible my V8 4.7L Dakota almost gets that.
Thanks
Thanks
I don't know what everyones problem with gas mileage is. I have no problems on mileage with mine. I do occasionally get sub-par results, but I think thats usually related to the gas or weather conditions. I do almost all city driving and I get right about what they say I should get. I get anywhere from 28-30 in the city. If I drive highway only its anywhere from about 30-36. By the way.....I drive my car hard most the time...so maybe thats the secret.

I sometimes am a lead foot, so I understand a little why I get lower gas mileage. At first it seemed real bad. the first 1700 miles. Then I read somewhere and was told on here once that for break in, something to do with the computer, you don't get as good mileage. Once I hit over 1700 I was getting better mileage. When I hit 3000 even better. I just went over 10000, and I am notiecing I am even getting better mileage. When I drive freeway driving I get over 30. And with city I get between 23 to 28. All depends how I feel. In other words, there are days I want to gun it, and days where I just relax and njoy a nice druise to work.
does this sound right. I get around 180 miles to the hole tank. thats not going on the parkway. Sounds bad to me. Im not sure but on my buddys neons under the hood it said sumthing about a diffrent computer. He has a sxt 2004 and my other friend has a 2001 and the sxt beat him bad. This is what he told me. Did they reprogram the computers on the newer ones?
I get about 23. Car has 103k miles on it. I figure it's because it is a 3 speed. If it was a 5 speed it would get much better, being in 3rd at freeway speeds is running a lot higher revs than it needs to.

i dont know..........i get about 200-250 miles per tank. in the city on the highway and interstate i get atleast 300-350 miles per tank. my car has about 35,000 miles on it....... i couldn't take it with the bad gas mileage so i put in better plugs and they helped about 30-50 miles more per tank depending on the quality of the gas i put in her.
Gas Mileage for my 2000 Neon Automatic Tranny 46,000M is 240-260 miles to the tank. 260 miles is pushing it for a tank, and I mean really pushing it, 240 is safe from completely full to first gas light. Usually about 25-27 mpg...never tested for highway...never really need to and/or drive long distances on highway. I could only guess about 30-32 for highway.
I am sure you did the basics but always good to double check. (ie. air filter, injector cleaning, plugs, wires etc.) However you may ask about fuel trim? If you have a shop with a scanner check your fuel trims. If it is trying to lean it out to badly you may have bad injectors. Fuel nozzle holes too large not atomizing fuel properly. Thus it would run rich all the time.
If someone has a friend who has a good car and yours is one with bad milage try changing injectors and see if milage changes drastically. Could simply be poor quality control on injectors. If you put in say 35 lbs injectors when you should have 25 lbs injectors you will get poor milage. This could possibly be a cause and worth someone investgating. Heck everyone else has seems to recomend everthing else.
