How do I disable DRL on 2005 Dodge Neon?
Look at the wiring diagram for the 2gn Neons for the models that have the DRL system. You can't just cut a wire. There are many wires (hence the word integrated) that go to many different places.
For example, the beginning of the wiring system for it goes like this:
Starts from a relay in the fuse box and goes to the DRL low relay. Here, the DRL low relay branches off to a DRL high relay and a diode. The DRL high relay has a wire coming from the MFS to it. One of the three connectors from the DRL high relay goes to a switch in the instrument cluster. The diode from the DRL low relay goes to instrument clusters dimmer switch/low beam output. That same diode wire is tied into 5 others. Pretty much the same pattern across the entire system.
Looking at the wiring diagram, I'd guess you'd need a non-DRL cluster, a non-DRL MFS and more likely than not, a non-DRL wiring harness to get rid of it. I looked around online before, and came up empty handed for a 2gn Neon. The 1gn's have a box behind the radio they can disconnect.

man, I've always wanted drl's, but never had a car with em...
my 05 sxt(61k mi) still has the factory headlight bulbs, and i have always had the lights on when i drive(have all 15 yrs i've been driving), night or day, since i don't have the drls. ( also did it in my last car, had it for 8 yrs, maybe changed the bulbs 4 times, so on average every 2 years) granted, I've only had this neon since Feb when it had 54 k on it, and i don't know if my brother who who was the original owner, always used the lights like i do, but i know he never changed the headlights...

The headlights do NOT run at a reduced output. The running lamps on my Neon are the actual headlights themselves and they are on at full intensity all the time! I've already had to replace a headlamp already due to them being on all the time when the engine is running. How do I disable this? Someone out there HAS to know. Would appreciate the much needed help.
a buddy of mine's mom used to have an olds that had been rebuilt with a salvage title(not that i'm suggesting yours was). whom ever had rebuilt it did a fantastic job for the most part, but the head lights, were always on if the key was in the run position. ( it was a model JUST old enough that it was before GM made drl's standard)there was a decal next to the headlight switch reminding you to turn the switch on after dark so your tail and "running" lights would be on ( no light sensor) they had pretty much just wired the low beams to a switched fuse, so if you put the key in run or acc, (anywhere you would have power to the radio, windows, etc), they were just on. the previous owner could have done a similar wiring job on your neon.
In fact i remember seeing and almost buying(at that time i was to afraid to mess with "all those wires") an aftermarket part (if i remember correctly it was pretty much just a relay) to do just that in around '99? it was for sale at the "non-wally" supercenter i worked at so it was prolly avail about anywhere, and might still be some where.

so in short, Neon Guy 05, i would get me a copy of the wiring diagram,(thank you for the link in that other thread darth roush) and look for an extra relay attached to your headlamp circuit

ok, i get that , but you missed the BIG POINT of what i was trying to say...
MAYBE, his car is NOT equipped with factory DRL's, MAYBE a previous owner modified the wiring by installing a relay to turn the lights on, when the key is in a powered position..
THAT is what i was trying to say.
does that make sense to you?? given the symptoms the OP described??

If someone installed a relay somewhere, a wiring diagram isn't going to do a whole lot of good. He'll just have to trace wires. Of course, I don't think there are too many places one could tie into the system, so it should be easier to spot. I get where you are going with it now.
Hell, it could be a faulty MFS too...
