Default transmission fluid

i was told that if you get your transsmission fluid changed late in your car you might as well not change it at all. the manual for my 2000 neon es says to change it at 100,000 miles. my car is at 109,000. is it true i should just leave it, or should i go ahead and change the the fluid?

change it. i dont see why changing a fluid late would negatively effect anything..
id much rather have new fluids in there than old stuff, especially after 100k!

Standard maintenance is always good if done correctly. Yup you use ATF+4 in Chryslers today. Now if you are exeriencing problems and you fluid is been burnt or severily contamininated for a while you'r done. Changing will kill it faster. However, if you oil still looks good and it drives just fine 109,000 vs. 100,000 is like telling me not to change engine oil if you go to 3300 miles instead of a suggested 3000. no biggy.

If you goto the local parts store and they do not carry Mopar ATF+4 you probably wont find it. Same with Jiffy Lube Etc. Probably a job for your trusted dealer.

Yea i had to go buy the atf 4 at a local parts store. it was like 5 bucks a quart. otehr then that i tried auto barn and they told me to mix atf3 and sumthing else, i was like nah and left. when u change it make sure you get the filter for the inside and clean all the rubber off the out side of the pan because they give you a gasket to use and u want a clean surface so nothing leaks. There should also be a metel magnet inside the pan. clean it off and put it back where it was. I think thats to collect the metel thats floting around in the fluid. It holds about 4 quarts. good luck
