I just got a neon sxt all factory. when i drive down the road i hear a 'grinding' like noise in the front end. changed the calaper and the wheel berring is good. passenger side bottom motor mount is broke and top one on the top one is worn out. the cv axel's move up and down when i pull on them are they supposed to do that or is that where im hearing the noise from? could any ony please help???? gets louder the faster i go?
sounds like wheel bearings. did you check both sides? jack the front of the car up and see if there is any play in the front wheels. move them from side to side and up and down.
-Also if it's a wheel bearing, you might be able to tell which one it is when you go around a turn. If the noise gets louder when you turn left, then you know it's the right wheel bearing because that is is taking most of the load. Vice versa if you turn right.
no i havent changed the mounts yet. would the mounts being bad cause the noise in the front end? since it is making the noise would i have to change the cv axles also? it is an ATx
I had the same problem and noise changed the mounts and cv axles and that so did the job now I can here my borla and stereo system again without any other annoying sounds that arent suppose to be. Mines an auto also.
the cv axles only cost me 200bucks to fix seeing my husband and I put them on with the motor mounts . You have to shop around for a good deal on the bigger things anyways they have to be replaced sometime. Not hard to change the bigger things if you have 2 people doing it.
