Default Manual transmission swap

Just wondering but how hard would it be to swap an automatic transmission to a 5-speed Manual? I know what parts i'd have to get but what about actually getting it put in and mounting the shifter ect.

Good idea or massive undertaking of despair?

Not a good idea, a great idea IMO. I'm doing it when this piece of crap auto gives out again.

So it's an almost direct bolt in? Obviously i'd have to route the cable for the clutch unless it's a hydraulic system.
What about the "tunnel"? after taking out the automatic components will a shifter just bolt in it's place?
That's the stuff I was wondering about.

I must be the only one around who loves her auto sxt only way I would do the tranny swap if Iwas going to do the srt turbo swap thinking about it but I have another turbo ride already so might just stick with that one.

My wife won't allow it in her car.. I'm looking into this for a future project. Neon's are everywhere here and 90% of them are automatics.. I'll tolerate one but if it's mine.. it has to be a manual shift. I like to be in full control of my experience.

Pretty much. You'll need the transmission, pedal assembly, clutch cable and so on. There's already a place for the cable. There's a block off plate next to the brake fluid reservoir where the cable goes in a manual. You can get the computer too if you want a bit of a higher rev limit.

LMAO no way! I figured there was the pre-cut hole for a cable/master cylinder but for everything else too? All I need is a run down car with a good body. The rev-limiter is just fine. it already goes straight to the 6500 line before it shifts.

From everything I've read, that's how it works. I believe they just made everything universal so to speak, then put whatever parts in there. That's why, for example, 2002 and later cars still have the cutouts for the cupholder light and glove box light and so on. I've seen it cost about $600 or so, roughly, for everything needed. It depends where you get your stuff from pretty much. I'm going to try and find the page with a bit more insight on it for you.

I can't find it right now, but there are tons of threads here about it. You'll just have to look around a bit: http://www.forum.2gn.org/viewforum.php?f=15

There is this one about the limiter too on the 3 speed autos: http://www.forum.2gn.org/viewtopic.p...ecd6cd27eb3746
