Default Help Installing an Aftermarket Tach!!!

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon Highline, 5-spd manual, and NO TACH!?!? So I purchased a Sunpro Supertach II. It says it isn't supported on the one page included, however, i have been reading that it is possible... I heard that wiring it to a wire in or coming from the PCM and wiring the backlight to the dimmer switch are the ways to go.. So TWO(2) questions.. 1) Which PCM wire should i wire it to?? and 2)Where on or what wire with the dimmer switch would be best place to wire the backlight to?? Thanks for the help.

I understand that an adapter would work... However, i heard you don't need it... this is a quote from a post on a different forum from 2003 and the guy never posted anything...

"just had a sunpro super tach II installed, 2.5", and it was running slow at 1st. i could mash the peddal down & let her wind up 2 7000rpm+tach wood
max out at 3000rpm/atx. my mechanic ran 1 of the wires directly 2 my pcm
instead of the coil pack the tach is very responsive and completely accurate
if u want 2 know about this pcm 'coil bypass' hook up i can post which pcm wire u gotta hook up 2 on monday nite after i ask my tech. i guess it is also easier 2 do it this way so he sez"

I sent them an email, hopefully they can help. However, their compatibility paper said that the tach isn't supported, so idk if they will be able to help me.

That's why you check to make sure something will work on your car before you buy it.

yep, on the old neons you could wire it straight to the PCM and it be accurate.. but not the 2000+ for some reason... you ahve to get a tach adapter to make it work.. all it does is amplify the signal coming from your coil.
