Default Torque Strut adjustment

Hey guys, I just replaced my motor mounts and torque struts yesterday, and I can't for the life of me get the motor to turn enough to get the 4.7in measurement on the upper torque strut. I tried a floor jack but it stops turning the motor and starts lifting up on it... Any tips to get the motor to the right adjustment? Thanks.

Did you mark the motor mount before you replaced it? That has to be aligned too. If the motor mount is aligned properly, there shouldn't be any reason you can't get the measurement unless you are measuring to and from the wrong spots. I don't think the motor mount not even being aligned could cause it not to be able to align.

Yes make sure the rear bolt on the lower torque strut is loose, and that you are measuring from the correct locations. 4.7 inches from the center of the aft bolt on the timing belt cover to the center of the hole where snap in clip for the washer fluid hose goes. Take the clip out to make the measurement. The picture in the Haynes manual is wrong. I think Darthroush posted better picutures some time ago.

You talking about this? I replaced mine a while back and was trying to get the 4.7", but looking at the picture in the repair book it is 7.4

I think it's supposed to be 7.4". The top strut is more than 5" long.

if I am wrong please correct me.

How is it "supposed to be" 7.4"? It says 119mm (4.7in) in the book?

I guess I have a new picture now, lol:

As you can see in this picture, your tape measure isn't that far off from the 4.7".

my book says measure to the center of the hole on the shock tower bracket. where I have it in the first pic. but when I swapped them out it fit in without any adjustments. the picture in the Haynes shows 7 plus inches and it says measure to a different location than you posted. Im not trying to argue with you, just indicating that my repair manual is different or wrong?

I didn't think you were trying to argue with me; I was just curious how you came upon that number. I'm curious to see the instructions in your book. Maybe you could snap a couple of pictures?

here is the picture in my haynes manual. it shows a different spot to measure from. (where I measured from in the first pic) its hard to see but the ruler right end is 12 and the left mark is just past 6. so that is actually 6 inches not even the 7 I said before.

Yeah, they screwed up, badly. They list 4.70 inches, but their ruler clearly shows much more than that?! Either way, I hope the above helps anyone with the same, wrong picture.
