Default 2000 air intake

heys guys i am new to this forum and the whole performance scene as well.

i have a 2000 dodge neon and have some questions about upgrading it.
first off, it has 139k miles on it. is that too many miles to start doing things like this? i am not trying to do anything extreme.

since the car is stock i figure adding a better air filter and perhaps a cold air intake system.

after doing some looking i found a couple i am curious about

1st K&N (gains 5.3 hp)
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...6_105421_3933_

2nd AFE Magnum Force (gains up to 25 hp)
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...155410431.html

which of those do you think would be best?

any other tips appreciated.

Neither. The stock intake system flows more air than the engine needs. Save your money.

Go get the K&N one. You can rev and it sounds really badass. Makes mustang guys tremble in fear....HA But really, I believe their claim to 5.3hp gain, I honestly do feel a difference.

Oh, BTW. I'm going back to stock soon. I'm buying a second car, don't need to be racing around in my DD.. :\

alright i'll do that. would it make sense to remove both the top and bottom housing to the air filter? i can only see that restricting air flow. would removing the housing be a good idea?

You will realize real quick that the housing HAS to be removed.

Yes, I'm being serious. It'll make the neat intake sound, but that's about it. Having an open element will also make you more susceptible to hydrolocking your car. It's not unheard of on Neons with intakes. Besides, if you really did get the max HP they claim (5HP is it?), it's nothing you are going to feel. If you have the money and want it, go for it. I just think there are more worthwhile upgrades to do before that. Then again, everyone loves the sound of the intake, lol.

Do something with the intake system behind the air filter (you can remove the air silencer though, which is before) or the throttle body...

+1

My open airfilter is behind the driver's side bumper(in front of the wheel). I'm scared as hell to drive it in the rain. It does sound good though.

As for performance, get an exhaust. Either Magnaflow or even a stocker SRT. Mine's nice!
