humming noise/ new timing belt
#12
When I watched it, twice to make sure, it sounds like there is a voice, but it sounds really s...l...o...w and deep like it was slowed down, lol. I'm not sure how else to describe it. I can tell you my new belt did not as has not whined and a bad/worn pulley bearing will whine. It sure wouldn't hurt to replace that one pulley though at timing belt time.

solved timing humm
Fixed mine already. The problem (if its the same one i had) is that the timing tensioner is set past tolerance and its causing drag which is the noise you hear. loosen the tensioner bolt and reset the tensioner but dont set it to tight or youll still here that humm. in the end the belt should feel slightly loose but not loose enough to jump time or affect throttle response. also if all else fails have someone look over your work. "two heads are better then one" GOOD LUCK

thanks to this guy, "Lost4202010" I retensioned my timing belt, according to the manual this time. It seems to be working as advertised. I negated to actually read the manual and cranked the tensioner until it ratcheted, then gave it a couple of more clicks to make sure I was there... sinched it down and slammed it back together. It sounded like that little Neon had gear drive! I had in fact, over tensioned the belt, the difference was noticable, and the outcome,... the whining noise is gone, and I feel a bit better about it making it to it's next change interval....
Thanks,
