-My SXT gets between 34 and 37 MPG on vacation trips driving through the mountains too, depending on whether or not I have the a/c on. When driving 60/40 highway/city, it drops to between 30 and 32 MPG. Nothing but in town driving kind of sucks, but oh well.

Matt

K&N CAI was the first engine mod I did to my 02 SXT. I defiantly could tell a difference around 3.5-5k rpm. OBX headers (4-1) and a Magnaflow exhaust (2.25" pipe 3" outlet, dual tip FTW!) only increased that top end. Don't really notice any difference at all untill 3k+ but after that it really takes off. I really dont know, my MPG didnt change significantly at all that I could tell, but I do about 80% of my driving on the highway. Personally I feel the $180 I spent on my CAI was well worth it

That still isn't any sort of proof. Just because you aren't the only one who isn't running the stock intake system doesn't make what you've said true or correct.

I have an ebay intake with k&n filter and you have a stock system so I think I would know if it gives my sxt a little better gas mileage. Ask any autoparts store or anyone else that has an intake with a K&n filter how there gas mileage is. Even the swann said it helped his neon . I said little not much.

You want me to ask the people who can't give me the correct brake pads if a K&N filter is for-sure going to improve the gas mileage in any car that gets one? My gas mileage is almost the same as yours, but I don't have "city" driving. Averaged out, my MPG is almost the exact same, with the exception of me having mountain driving instead of city. Driving a car up and down a steep hill that is miles long is a bit of a MPG killer. I get 30 v. your 32. My highway MPGs are the same as yours. I have even gotten 40MPG before too. It was optimal conditions across the board, but I still go it. How do I know that? I filled up my car, drove 80 miles, and then topped off the tank with 2 gallons. I did it all out of curiosity. All with a stock intake system.

I guess I'll have to run right out and get one, because I'll get over 40MPG on the highway if it truly gives you more MPG.

Ive gotten 50 when Iwent to st louis this year actually the best I have ever gotten and I just put new plugs and wires in and a brand new K&n filter so with all that plugs and wires with the k&n filter helps out alot more than what you guys without a k&n filter . Darth you should actually try a k&n drop in for your stock system and than tell me how much more gas mileage you have.

50?! That's more than a 1gn...

I'm probably going to buy a drop-in reusable filter this next go around because I drive A LOT. A $15 paper filter two or three times a year is almost more/more than a reusable filter. I won't be buying an intake though, just a reusable filter. I think the Mopar one is about $40. I just have to look around for a good price. I'm not going to be expecting an increase in MPG, but we'll see.

I have had two 1st gen neons and they to me dont have as good gas mileage as 2nd gens and yeah the k&n and mopars drop ins are around the same price . I got mine locally for about 25bucks though they were on sale at advance auto. It will help somewhat for gas mileage youll see. Actually if I wasnt a modded gal freak I would of kept my stock drop in k&n filter and not get a ebay intake .

I was looking at them just a bit ago. The Spectre hpR filters are pretty much the exact same as a K&N (filtration, flow, construction, etc...), but the one for the Neon only costs ~$22 instead of the ~$65 or so I believe for the K&N. Actually, I'd have gotten and aFe Pro Dry before a K&N. I'll probably go order one pretty soon because I'm at about 16,000 miles I think on my current air filter from springtime when it was replaced. The other "to-do" is to replace the bellows tube with straight tubing.
