P0601 is caused by a problem with the internal PCM. Shop manual says the PCM needs to be replaced and reprogrammed to fix the problem.

P1684 means that your battery has been disconnected. It is an "informational" code...I guess in case you couldn't remember you disconnected your battery.

Replaced PCM with one from a buddys junk yard and its still throwing the P1684 and P0601 codes. Does anybody have any ideals on this??? I've checked all wires at PCM connector for short to ground and in the process of checking opens and wires shorted together. Thanks for the help so far!!!

Found this with a quick search online:
P0601 means that a serial communication failed inside the computer at least 6 times. Diagnostic is long, complicated process. It involves first checking all power and grounds to the pcm, including fuses. Next is to do a continuity check of all input and output lines from the pcm to the respective components. Finally, a check for any shorted output devices. With this code, all monitoring by the pcm is suspended. Good luck!

Well, did all that!!! All is working as it should. Now it's throwing codes P1684, P0601 and P1294. My book doesn't cover that code. I was wondering if the PRNDL switch could have anything to do with this problem since it's only doing it in P or N, not that I have found a problem just wondering? Read on the truck forum that I should remove IAC and clean with carb cleaner and also clean the ports in the throttle body, any advice on this? Thanks again for the help this one has me stumped, I'm not a big fan of parts changers but I'm just about there with this one!!!

Don't worry about P1684. It means nothing.

P1294: Injector High Side Open - Bank 2/Target idle not reached. Park and neutral will have a different idle speed than when you are in gear. You can clean the TB and the IAC to see if it helps. If not, look for some sort of vacuum leak.

P0601 you still have a bad PCM or bad wiring to and from.
P1684- dont worry about
