Default neon es engine rebuild need advice

i have a 2001 neon es with the 2.0 SOHC motor. any advice on what parts to use? i have around a grand to but into my build and at a later date i want to put a turbo. so i kinda want to build a motor where i can just bolt on the turbo kit later. any good brand names or sites would be helpful. thanks

You can put a turbo on the stock engine. If you are thinking about making it a "built" engine, you will only get part of the way there with $1,000. Your best bet would be to find out what the weakest part of the internal engine is, that is most likely to fail under higher HP/boost, and simply upgrade those parts. Other than that, just buy a regular rebuild kit for everything else.

You will need at least 1229 to do the bottom end.

JE Pistons 8.8 & Rings
Eagle Rods
Mopar Rod Bearings & Main Bearings
Mopar Oil Pan Gasket
Mopar Rear Main Seal
Melling Oil Pump

You will need another 89.99 for the head gasket set to finish the top.

Valve cover gasket
Cam Seal gasket
Intake manifold gaskets
Head gasket
Spark plug tube seals

Of course adding new spark plugs and wires would be good.

Oh course this is just the cost of parts. You should think about getting the block machined and the internals balanced if you want to do it right.

Basically, just keep saving a bit more and you'll be better off in the end.

Why not just spend a couple hundred on a used 2.0 to have an engine for now, and then save for what you want. Yeah, you'll lose a bit now, but you'll have the car to drive. I understand your want/reasoning, but it still costs more than what you have to do what you want.
