Default Front exterior door handle sticks out after opening

Both my front exterior door handles, when pulled, do not go back into place. I have to push them back in to get the door to close. My car is a 2002 Dodge Neon SXT. Will I have to take the door panel off and check the release mechanism or is there an easier way? You can email a response at jchabot2012@gmail.com I'm new to the forum and thanks for any replies.

So I went ahead and took the door panel off and tried to get access to where the mechanism is to the exterior door, but there is a plate of glass and I cannot get to it. I squirted into the door handle holes with WD-40 and tried working the handle, but it didn't help matters. Any ideas?

Roll up the window, and then the glass won't be in the way?

Haha, I didn't even make that connection that it was the glass from my window, stupid me. I ended up spraying WD-40 and it didn't work at first but after sitting for a few minutes and then working the handle it seemed to fix the problem. Thanks for your reply.

If you get some free time, it still might be worth taking the door panel off again and spraying everything from the inside too. You'll likely get even better results that way.
