Default Heads 1st & 2nd Gen

I made another post about timing and water pump issues. I am suspecting I have bent valves. I have never changed valves. So I am thinking if needed I will just pick up a head. I have a junkyard 5 miles away that has several 1st gens. There is another that is about 60 miles away that has 2 second gens.

My question is will a head off a 95-99 fit a 2000? Both are 2.0l SOHC.

I kind of figured they were different. I have never tried to swap between gens before.

A 1gn valve cover will fit a 2gn. I'd think the 2.0L SOHC head would be the same too...

You can try but I have a 1st gen neon and the head did not fit but mines a 96 so maybe a newer one than that yr would fit a 2nd gen.

I posted this same question on neons.org and I got the reply that they were the same. So I can get one at this place locally for scrap valve. Its a junkyard and they buy cars and set them off to the side. ITs not a traditional u pull it yard. I can probably get one for $10-15 so I will probably just buy one and see what happens.

But if anyone can shed some light on this please do so.

Also on car-part.com (searches local junkyards) it shows 96 and up will interchange with my 2000. Also shows that a 2.0l SOHC head from a Breeze will work also.

I successfully put a head from an '03 on a '95. I just changed the target magnet in the end of the cam. It worked great. Also had to drill and tap for EGR, no big deal.

That's the difference...couldn't think of it. 1gn had EGR. You'll have to block it off on a 2gn.
