Question 01 Neon, Won't start Red round Security lite is on

A few months back I had to replace the idler pulley. Did that, everything was OK, 2 days later, the car turned off as my daughter was coming home from school. I have the Haynes manual and have checked quite a few things in attenmpting to troubleshoot, but I cannot get the red circular anti theft light (at least that's what I've been told it is) to go off. It will go off when I initially insert the key and try to start, but then come back on. The car will NOT crank, I cannot get any codes, my reader says 'error'. Also, With the keys out of the car, I heard a clicking, the IAC was clicking and the housing it's in was super hot, I pulled the 20 amp fuse from the power center under the hood for 'FP/ASD/Gas' and it stopped. the car has been in my garage for over two months. Any ideas?

Are the lights blinking and horns making noise like as if it was being broken into?

I believe you need a factory scan tool to get that light to turn off.

Was the fuse you pulled (#21 ASD/FP) blown? This sounds similar to a problem I had with my 04 SXT. My ASD fuse would blow sporatically, then every few miles. Turned out to be a pinched wire-loom causing a short in the alternator wire. If that fuse is blown your OBDII port will not work. There are only two things directly wired to that fuse before the ASD relay: The Alternator and the PCM. I would trace the alt wire and the loom it goes into and look for a pinch. Mine was pinched to the bottom front of the tranny, just below the PCM. If it's not that, then it's the PCM causing the fuse to blow out. In that case, I have no idea.
Oh yeah, and my security light came on during that whole ordeal also.

Hi, Thank you for the reply. No, the fuse was not blown, but I could hear clicking in the throttle body area. Found the IAC casing was super hot and pulled the connection locally and it stopped. I reattached it and it started doing it again, so I pulled the fuse. I will check the wiring again in the harness that the IAC wiring goes into and check for crimps, bare wires and the like. (Fingers are crossed) Thanks again.

Hmmm... if I had to guess, I'd say you have a short somewhere causing the IAC motor to go haywire and heat up. Has the car ever been in an accident or any kind of situation that would cause a pinch anywhere? If not, the IAC may be bad. Were there any idling issues before, like random surges in the RPMs? There are instructions for electrically testing the IAC valve here.

Update. After exhaustingly checking every wire, changed the computer, cleaned alot of oil gunk out of the engine area and the car is running fine. Next thing is bleeding brakes...
