Default new here. need help

hey guys, i have been looking around this site for a few weeks and i decided to make an account, and i need some help. i bought a 02 neon a few weeks ago. it just has the 14 inch steelies on it. so i just bought i set of srt rims. a buddy has some 205/50/17 he will sell me for cheap and they are in good shape. just wondering if they will fit on my car with out rubbing. wanted to buy these just to get me through this year then next year buy a new set of rubber. so if anyone has put 205/50/17 on srt rims on a base neon let me know if you had any problems or not.
thanks.

i think they are the same size as the stock ones. i am wondering if they will fir on my base model 2002 neon. i am worried the struts are to low and i wont be able to clear the tires.

i have srt 17's on my 03 se and i went with 205 40 17's and they have like an inch of room to the strut. if you go with a 50 profile your gonna be maxd but i think you will be fine, but too close for me to be comfy with. , i saw a guy that was about a pinky finger or less from the strut , i think his tires were 45 or 50 profile. so you should be able to just barely get by but it would better to go with a 40 or 45.

ok thanks, i dont think they will fit, i talked to a guy who said his rub on his strut. so i am thinking 205/45/17. that blows though i just got the rims to rock them for the summer but i am going to college in the fall so money is tight, and not sure if i can afford new rubber right now. boo!

There is a thread around where this was discussed in depth. The answers are there.

ok well i think i found it. what i am seeing is the 205/50/17 wont fit. everyone suggests 205/40/17. i would like to still have a half comfortable ride, so think i could meet half way with 205/45/17?? let me know what you think. or if anyone here is running 205/45/17 on there non srt neon let me know if they fit ok.
thanks.

The reason the "series" is an issue is because the strut perch is lower on factory SE/SXT struts than the SRT and aftermarket struts, so it hits if the sidewall is too high.

it's not just the tire size and width...that seems to be all that is mentioned here...

it's the "off-set" on the rims.... I think standard offset is around 37-40.... anything outside that range will cause problems....

if ya don't know the offset, then all you can do is a test fit.... you can get around the rubbing by adding "spacers"... but make sure if u use them, there is enough threads on the lugs to get the lug nuts to tighten up safely

I'm running 205/50-16's on rims with a 38 offset...and have about a half inch of clearance on the rear stut bars (think that's what they are...the arms...)...fronts are fine

omg , this so easy really. the difference between a 45 and 40 series is minute in terms of ride quality. save the time and get a 40 series tire they give you the peace of mind of knowing they wont rub. the only thing your gonna notice is when hitting pot holes or raised portion roads at higher speed. when i hit pot holes its like slamming the wheel onto concrete , but on normal roads you hardly notice anything. there is no debate get the 40's , ive worked in the auto trade for many years , id rather have the clearance than .5 a profile higher. just dont put em on the wheels yourself cause they are very very hard to bead , it took in the 160 psi range to pop the beads on mine. but seriously take my advice if your gonna run the srt wheels go with the 40.
