Default Ehaust Help

I need to do something about my ehaust not sounding like $hit. I have a 2002 R/T magnum neon. I have the stock ehaust system on it. Any suggestions to giving it a better sound and so that it dosen't whine and pop so much.[sm=gears.gif]

SAY WHAT?! Well I agree with the OBX headers, the 2.25 is your stock exhaust size, and sure a single straight through muffler is great for flow to, but a 4 inch tip for BACKFIRE?! Ok, Ill even give ya that a backfire on a hard driven car may look cool, but it isnt. Backfire=Bad. plain and simple version of it: its fuel in your exhaust that didnt get burned, then when the engine fires again, it explodes. This can, and will lead to you "F"ing up your exhaust. Then you get to do it again. MMmmm... sounds fun huh? There are plenty of great dual exhaust catback systems manufactured for your car that will give your ride healthier, and safer HP and sound. If you do go with the straight through, I would suggest going through the muffler, then have it go back down in size for a little bit of backpressure which will filter down some of the rich sooty material that will build up. Then just put a nice lookin tip on it. I dont mean this in anyway as an insult to the previous suggestion, but this is the way I would go if I were you. Whatever you do, consult a shop that has experience with aftermarket and custom exhaust. Theyll be able to answer your questions better, also google is a wonderful tool. Have fun upgradin your ride, and keep us posted on all of it!

One word, Rice. All an srt-4 exuast does is give you straight pipes, there is no muffler.

I can't see the RT poping that bad, but if you want to change and be quieter, goto any muffler shop and tell them you want a quiet exhuast.

Yo my muffler is a magnaflow, high performance muffler, i got it first before my headers and downpipe, when i first installed my muffler with stock 2 inch piping taking away the stock muffler and having a straight through design, it backfired, but thats how the muffler sounds. Ive seen many cars with magnaflow mufflers without any other exhaust upgrade and they backfired a little as well, and they weren't neons either. It's just how they sound. i then upgraded the cat back piping with a custom made 2.25 inch system and replaced my cat with a high flow cat and obx headers to complete the package, and there is no problem with my exhaust, i even had a racing teams mechanical engineer look at my exhaust, they work on everything and said my exhaust was put together well and attains the best possible amount of additional hp for an exhaust for my neon. The headers pretty much just added hp and amplified my muffler sound so it pops alot and louder, but thats becasue of the muffler, thats how it sounds.
