Default New muffler?

Okay, so after getting my intake, i decided on a new muffler. i plan on going to a junk yard or something to see if i can find one cheap.. so i looked at the rear of my car, that stock muffler box is huge.. the exhaust pipes run on the driver side and the muffler is dead center under my trunk and the tailpipe comes out on the passanger side. so how much of old exhaust do i have to take off along with the old muffler? i dont know much at all about doing it.. and also will a 2.5 inlet fit on a neon or will i have to go to 3in? if you could give good advice or instructions on how to do it its very appricated!
thanks guys!

Go with 2.5 anything bigger will be a pain and I would get a r/t or srt exhaust if your going to the junk yard.

I live in salvage yards and have yet to find an R/T or SRT in any of them ... all I seem to find are regular Neons ... I travel an average of 1.5 hrs in all directions of my place to scour the yards ...

All the neons I find in the junkyard are first gens. In the last two years I have seen two second gens in my local yard. As far a mufflers, I was looking at a magnaflow replacement. Just got to get some money saved up.

Commonly, junkyards have cars 10 years old and older in there. Vehicles newer than that end up at automotive recyclers, who charge you much more because 1) it's a newer car and 2) they pull the parts off the cars.

2000 being the first year of the 2nd gen Neon, and it currently being 10.5 years since they came out, they will start to appear there more often.

Hmm, so if i dont find one at the junk yard, where should i shop at? online or go to a parts store like advanced auto? i dont care like who makes it or anything, i just want a decent sound from my car. Advanced auto has 3M racing but alot of mixed reviews. Just curious to what anyone else thinks about looking for one? Thanks!
