Exclamation 2003 Dodge neon wont start sometimes

Hey guys Im new here but I was wondering what could cause a 2003 dodge neon sxt to not start sometimes and then sometimes start? It has a brand new battery, new spark plugs and coil, alternator and starter was checked and was working right. I'd say change the fuel filter but isnt that in the gas tank? Im out of clues... Thanks for the help in advance!

What does it do when it doesn't start; does it still crank? What comes on and what doesn't? Do you hear the fuel pump turn on with the key?

Did you change the spark plug wires as well? It's generally a more maintenance thing, but they can cause problems if too old or worn.

When it doesn't start, it cranks and just keeps cranking. The fuel pump also turns on since I can hear it when I turn the key. I also changed the spark plug wires. I had autozone checked the alternator, starter, and battery also and it was running fine.

The check engine light is on but it has been on since 40k miles ago and they said it's just the fuel cap, which I bought before and code is still there

Do you know what the code is? Most people think that if the CEL is on, you have a bad gas cap :\

I don't remember the code but I'll look into it and see what the code is later on. I have to take it to autozone which idk where since I just moved to Orlando.

You can check non-transmission codes by turning the key from off to on three times rapidly ending in the on position. The code(s) will be displayed in the odometer.

You'll want to check the camshaft position sensor wiring (the sensor is located on the driver's side of the head) and make sure none of the wires are bad. It does happen on these cars. If every wire looks good to as far back as you can trace it, you might need to stop by the dealer and get a new sensor and replace it.

That sensor and/or wiring can and will cause all sorts of problems if it is bad, including no-start situations.

I haven't checked the wiring yet but I'm planning to buy a camshaft position sensor soon at dealership. I should use OEM and not duralast or anything like that right?
