Default How to 2004 LSD swap a 2gn neon?

Do we have a how to on swapping to an SRT-4 LSD trans?

From what i can tell so far having never worked on or even seen the underneath of a SRT-4 at minimum the axles need swapping.

What I'm in the dark about is..........is there a half shaft? Is the axle larger at the hub as well.

I see alot of srt-4 swaps but nothing referrring to keeping the 2.0L while swapping to an srt-4 trans.

If not i guess I can work this out over time and write one up as i go along.

I would be interested to know if you do decide to proceed with the swap. I have a 2000 neon and I would like to have the LSD of the srt-4, and im going to pull the motor and trans to rebuild them before long, so no better time to do a swap :-)

You need the passenger axle I think, but I'd just grab both if you can. Your mount should be good AFAIK as you already have an MTX. You shouldn't need the knuckles though. You don't need them when swapping from an ATX to an MTX, so I wouldn't think you'd need them either way. Other than that, already having an MTX, I can't really think that you'd need much else?

It's certainly a definite swap I will be doing for multiple reasons, cost is one, durability is another.

The optional LSd for the normal MTX is not as strong as the Srt-4 version. Cost to add it is $1000 new, I just grabbed an 04 srt-4 trans up for $400 that needs minor work.

From research i have been doing the shift selector forks and have issues on the normal MTX due to being cast, it causes premature sync wear and a rattle and there is no fix for it.

On the srt-4 they are brass. The initial cost if you add goodies on the srt-4 trans can hurt a tad though. The clutch fork need to be replaced 90% of time, seems someone cryo treats them to last longer. I have acess to ln2 and lhe. I actually use it in the work I do for AMD ( Advanced Micro Devices ) link for those interested ( I'm Brian Mclachlan aka chew* )

Anyway I can cryo treat parts if need be.

From what I gather also swapping in a billet shift selector is a good idea however this can be done with trans installed

For those interested in the swap the 2004 trans is the most reliable it seems and since part of the swap is for the LSD 2003 is not an option leaving only 04-05 as an option and from what i gather 05's were problematic for whatever reason, premature wear apparently.

I will make a list of things needed, I know the clutch fork is different as well as the clutch cylinder also seeing as most of us will get a used trans there are a few other odds and ends that commonly go that commonly would be replaced when doing a clutch.

My biggest concern was there might be a intermediate shaft the axle went into and also that the axles at the hub were larger due to the diff sIze knuckles/braking system, I had assumed that the hubs would be different as well.

I don't recall ever having seen a write-up for going from the T-350 is it, to the T-850. I'm just guessing from the ATX to MTX swap parts list.

Oh might add that when ordering a used trans ask them to keep the mount on trans, you will need it as well shift cable mounts. They both mount to the t-850 differently.

Luckily I already covered that part of my swap.

Still in the dark as far as how it mounts up the the motormount bracket or if it even lines up so that may be a requirement as well.

I will probably mock up the t-850 into my car while overhauling the t-350 for fitment as I believe the PS cooler may need relocating as well,

might not be to much of an issue for me as I am looking into a manual rack from a 1gn anyway.

since the srt-4 guys were so helpfull in getting me a picture or diagram of the pass side drive line

Needless to say I did my own homework.

Guess now the question I need to answer is can the bracket that attaches to that mount up to the 2.0 sohc engine.

The intermediate shaft I linked in above post must attach to something.

I knew it had to have a halfshaft/intermediate shaft.....just to much power to not have one.

Intermediate shaft goes into trans, then bolts up to either the subframe or engine via a bracket.
