Default Aftermarket Tachometer

I want to get an aftermarket tach for my Neon. It's an 02 base without a tach in the cluster.

I know I can replace the cluster to one that had a tach, but I'd prefer not to do that, as I want to keep my mileage the same, and I don't' want to throw out a perfectly good cluster.

I know my two options would be to either get a tach that supports a 2-cylinder engine, or get a tach adapter (because the Neon has a distributor-less ignition). Can anybody point me to either?

I don't care about the size of the gauge. I'd be happy with a 52mm or some giant 3 1/2" tach.

If you can either post a link to buy a tach/adapter, or just the model number, it would be greatly appreciated.

Here you go...

Although personally I would prefer the cluster with the tach. I know you can swap out odometers on the 1st gen neons, but not sure about the 2nd gens.

Thanks for you reply! Are there any cheaper adapters out there? I've seen $20 tach adapters on ebay, but I have no idea if they're compatible with the Neon.

The 2nd gen neon has a digital odometer, so I don't think you can. I've never heard of anybody doing it.

Does anybody know if this SunPro adapter would work?

It's much cheaper.

You might be able to find it cheaper by shopping around. You've now got the part number, Google away!
You can swap in another 2gn cluster that has a tach, yeah. As for not losing the mileage, it's my understanding a dealer/shop with the DRBIII will raise the mileage of a "new" cluster to what yours currently is. I don't believe it is technically legal for anyone to "lower" the mileage of a car (i.e.- turn back the odometer). Some people don't care and just make a note of the mileage when they perform the swap. It would drive me nuts, personally. You could call a shop/dealer and confirm they'd up the mileage if you went that route, if you want the mileage to be the same.

It looks like it will work with the two tachometers they have listed.

Should work fine. I just support the company (Modern Performance) that has been producing products specifically for the neon. But I do understand wanting to save a $.

Asking for my own here, but any tach adapter will work for any tach? Just thought there might be something they might (could?) do to make it exclusive to their products. A less expensive alternative is nice to have at times.

Darthrouth, unless the tach specifies that it needs a certain tach adapter then it should be universal.

I actually looked on Sunpro's website, and it looks like this adapter actually won't work with the Neon.

It looks like the 2 cylinder tachometer is probably my cheapest option, aside from swapping the cluster. Can anybody recommend some 2 cylinder tachs?
