Engine Knock
The only real detrimental effect of piston slap would be excess oil consumption, and I'd venture to guess you know why that is.
If you are aiming for 250K before a new engine/rebuild/what have you, and you aren't going through a lot of oil...I say ride it out.

Not that I know of, no. I only check my oil when my car is even slightly acting up, but more often than not it's been in good standing. It's due for an oil change pretty soon, I've been putting Mobil 1 Full Synthetic in it since I've had it. I'm thinking of throwing in some Lucas oil stabilizer as well. Any recommendations? I should probably check the drain plug and oil pan, as I've "bottomed out" a lot more since my bumper/splash guard got taken off.
I personally don't like additives. Try a thicker oil instead and watch the pressure. If there's enough wear like it sounds there might be, the thicker oil will be fine and could possibly make the knock less pronounced if that's the problem.
