2005 NEON SXT GAS MILEAGE
Hi folks, new to this forum and have a question regarding my newly purchased neon. The last few tank fuls of gas I bought I calculated my fuel mileage and it is a disappointing 15-16 MPG. It is an automatic with 19000 miles on it and no turbo. Mostly in town driving but still should be better.
What can I check or have the dealer check what is causing this? No check engine lite or anything. Thanks for the help.

That's horrid!!!!! I get 38-41 in my '05 5 speed. Must be the Meguiars wax I put on it, little resistance to the wind =)
I heard the automatics are horrible as far as performance/mpg goes. If' it's slipping it could make the motor race more than it should. I would take it in. You should be getting 25-30 in my opinion, unless you are hauling @$$ everywhere.
Good luck

My 04 SE gets about 28 in town and up to about 34 on highway trips (75-80 mph). It has no air. The only thing you can have them do is just check it at idle and on the high way for fuel trim %'s and see if it is out of whack. If those are in spec then your driving and loads are to blame. If they are out of whack then they can do more to find out what your problem is. Should be less than 5% on fuel trim.
Have you done the basics yet? Plugs, possibly wires, Change your oil ('05 is 5W-20) and what not. My owners manual say to change the PCV valve as well depending on milage. Your at a point where I get leery of Champion Plugs being worn out. At least install a new set, use a good fuel injector cleaner (Redline SI-1 is a very good one, PEP BOYS). See what happens then.
