Default No heat, 2004 SXT

Crap. I was "gifted" my mom's old car as a backup driver. It's a yellow 04 Neon lovingly cared for by my mother since new. It's got 125000 miles. Always dealer serviced, every little quirk mom ran it to the dealer and they would soak her for a few hundred dollars at a time.

The week after Christmas, BOOM no heat. The air that comes out could be described as "slightly humid/warm" but something is definitely wrong. I note that it takes quite a while for the engine to get to temp, but it will eventually get to about the quarter mark on the temp gauge. I'm HOPING this is a thermostat issue and not a heater core issue, but I'm suspecting heater core. Anyone else suffer this problem on a Neon?

No heat will generally be caused by a low coolant level or a bad heater core. Is the coolant level good? Is the carpet in the car under the dash wet? Does the window have a greasy-like film on it? Does the air coming through the vents smell sweet?

Definately not a bypassed heater core if the 2 metal lines rusted through in front of the eng. block since it was serviced by the dealer! O.o

How is your coolant level...

Regarding a thermostat, even if it takes a while to heat up, your vehicle should still have full heat once it is at operating temperature.

To answer some questions, yes there is a greasy film on the windshield, the coolant is completely full, the carpet is actually dry, but there is a rain stick type noise coming from under the dash when you make a hard turn. No coolant smell that I can detect.

If all the above is good, does the lever/**** that turns from cold to hot turn with some resistance or just really super easy back an forth? That part could be snapped off behind the panel or **** stripped, easy fix though

TuhGrr... check coolant level and report back.

Kade, feel the inlet and outlet hoses to the heater core at operating temperature. Both hoses should be almost too hot to touch.
