Default Slow communication thru DLC

Searched for a few days have come up with nothing, the PCM in the neon I just bought seems to communicate very slowly when you try to pull information off it. At first I thought maybe a weak ground some where so I cleaned every ground under the hood.

It's still doing it so I was wondering is there anything I can do to test the PCM or DLC?

Is this a common issue with the neons as the PCM is mounted right in the path of moisture and such being right behind the front bumper?

Thanks in advance this forum has always been great with my Ram hopefully it'll continue with the neon.

Not sure. Mine took just as long as any other car. Common issue? No. In the 8 years I've owned a Neon and been on two large Neon forums, this is the first time I've heard this issue.

That's kinda what I didn't want to hear but also what I expected to hear lol. So any idea's on why the PCM would communicate slow? Also if I bump the cord for the scanner at all near the DLC it says error connecting. If I hold it firmly on the DLC it connects but slow, the same scanner works fine on all my other cars. Another note is that I actually work at an emissions testing facility and we have expensive OBDII interfacing equipment and it communicated just as slow as my handheld did with this car.

Thanks for the input Darth

I have no ideas, sorry. I've never heard this before for any car.

me either, any of the wires gotten hot by the pcm? Brittle an cracked going into the connection, my guess would be to try an reset the pcm pulling the fuse a few times and see if comm. speeds up

I haven't seen any damaged wires, I am going to look for corrosion on everything though as the pcm was put in a odd spot by dodge. Thanks for the input though guys. I will post back when I figure it out.

The car can only communicate as fast as your tool will let it..

Speed is always contingent on the tool.

Just because your emissions test equipment is state of the art does not mean it'll be fast with the Neon.

If you want fast communication, buy a DRBIII

Thats just it though with other neons it's fine and my scan tool is much faster with my other cars too. This neon is the first one iv'e owned to communicate this slow.

Did the other Neon's have the NGC system (2003-2005)?
