Default Fuel mileage

I have a 2001 Plymouth neon automatic I picked up from the original owner with 33000 miles on it. It needed a little work from sitting but I got it running well and replaced the plugs wires cam sensor. I took it on a 1000 mile trip the last few days and I am in shock. I set the cruise control at 75 and drove 285 miles nonstop on the interstate. I checked the mileage and it got 38.7 mpg. Now I did not believe this at all so I checked it again after 205 miles but this time I had construction so some stop and go but not alot and it got 37.3 mpg. Still shocked so yesterday I was to return home and I thought I would check 1 last time and it got 38.2 mpg. I am pretty surprised it is an automatic too. I did not have the a/c on so I am sure it will drop in the hot summer. Anyway just thought I would share that.

The old way I set the trip at 0 and fill the tank to the top. After driving I refill back to top and divide the miles by gallons put back in.

That pretty good! I think the best I got on vacation trips was around 34-35 mpg.Either way, enjoy the savings.

This isn't real surprising, I have a few friends who get pretty close to those numbers with their 5-speed neons, and they drive them like they're stolen. I used to average 32mpg plus from my built 3.0/5-speed swapped Acclaim.

It's always nice to hear people getting great mileage from older vehicles, I always have.

I had the cruise set and no A/C on it is pretty much hard for me to believe thats why I checked it 3 times. I was lucky to stumble across this car.

L8R,
Matt
I do like the savings I am sure it will drop in summer with the A/C on. I bought this car for my daughter she will be driving next year. However I am starting to wanna keep it.

I actually have 2 of these because I have 2 daughters. I bought the first one over 2 years ago for my oldest daughter. I am not sure of its mileage but it is not in as good of shape as this one. She sure likes the car even though it has 110000 miles on it.

Just checking. I've seen people calculate MPG in interesting ways, lol. Nice job on the MPGs!
