Default Dodge Neon Problems

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon that has started to lose acceleration when I begin to reach 45mph. My car begins to skip and feels like it's going to die out. I've had the car serviced 3 times since this started and I haven't had any success in having the problem fixed. Presently, the car will run fine until I've been driving about 20minutes. After 20 minutes goes by, it begins to skip and lose acceleration. The computer said that a fault was detected in cyllinder 4 and it was replaced. From spark plugs to the head, it seems like they've replaced everything on my neon and I still am having the same problem. Only difference is, now it takes 20 minutes before it happens once I'm driving instead of five. Any Clues????

Candy,

Welcome to DF. This is the place to come for getting ideas, checking out other peoples rides, asking questions and sharing knowledge. Lots of good people here. Glad to have you aboard.

Not knowledable on Neons but the more appropriate section for you questions is in the Neon section. Post your problems over there. Lots of really bright Neon owners who will be happy to try and answer your questions.

James

A misfire? If they put platinum plugs in there, I'd bet that's the problem...

Is the Check Engine light coming back on?

What about fuel pump or injectors? I used to have a mitsubishi that did that same thing and finally it would just stop running after 20 minutes or so and it turned out to be the fuel pump.

yeah it could be the fuel pump, sometimes with the neon pump will not just "die" and will start to cut out when they get hot from running a while.

is the cylinder 4 misfire still happening? if so look at the fuel injectior maybe just run some fuel injector cleaner through it if it still comes up as cylinder 4 misfire.. if not deff look into the fuel injectors, it is hard to tell you what is exactly wrong with the car without looking at it but the great thing about this site is that you can get some places to start looking at and for

welcome to DF it is a very helpfull website!!!

and if it's the fuel pump, I might just have a brand new one for sale (I dont think I'll need it though I just bought it)

I had similar problems with my neon. cyl 4 was misfiring and it turned out that the gasket was all messed up and oil was leaking up into the plug
check it out and let us know!
