So my girlfriend wants her neon to be faster
I don't know much about neons or their engines and I really would like to spend <$300 but that depends. She says she wants her car to sound better so I'm thinking CAI or exhaust, but she also is always complaining about how slow it is, so maybe CAI with pulleys? What are some good CAI's? She says she wants the dynomax exhaust and I was looking at the AEM intake and it seems to have a good design and also a good name brand (K&N) filter. Any suggestions or thoughts???
there u go. the AEM air intake should be the most economic way to make ur girl's neon goes a little bit faster.
but anyway, i suggest u put more money on the neon. just go and add a turbo! then it will be super cool!

I have an AEM CAI and I am very impressed.
I think it will be a great 1st. step to solving her problem.
It gives me 8 ponies and makes my car sound like a muscle car when I rev it! [:@]

personally, I'd say: a CAI, an exhaust, underdrive pulley, a larger TB, high throughput fuel injectors, a high flow fuel pump, larger downtubes, aftermarket headers, upgraded PCM, then a turbo. That's the order I intend to implement on my own car. Once all is said and done, it'll end up costing me about $5-$6K (the turbo being about 3K of that.) This build isn't for everybody, but it'll give you some ideas. The order that these happen might change depending on troubles I encounter or if my research indicates otherwise.
I'd love to see some successful roadmaps of other peoples builds or receive input on my build plan.

Its not a bad plan, but if you are gonna spend $3000 on a turbo, I am assuming that you are getting either the hahns or chill factory kits. You can save yourself about $1000 by not getting the injectors, fuel pump, header, and PCM since the pcm and header are useless with a turbo, and the injectors and fuel pump come with the kit.
But to the orignal question, a CAI and full exhuast are probally the best way to get some sound and a little more power out of the car. You will probally spend at least $500-$600 on a good CAI and exhuast.

Personally, I would rather do a cam upgrade after the pcm.
Casper: I'd say the header would be useless if u get a turbo but not the PCM. The Neon still would have factory drawbacks with the stock pcm. By getting the pcm you'll have the top speed limiter taken off. I would hate to have all that power and get shut off at 120 mph so soon.
Yeah, I could have swore someone around here said it was 8 hp. I don't know for sure, whatever.
And I didn't say my car WAS a muscle car. I was only trying to give an example. I don't hold my car in
the same catagory as a muscle car. And although I like to make my car "fast" and sound nice, I am
against ricing out cars.
So get off my case.
