MSD ignition coil question
The Screamin Demon coil pack says a plug gap of .065 is required for use, but the MSD says nothing about gap. Do you have to use a larger gap for the MSD? As far a wires go i have searched the forum for past posts and have read reviews that say good things about the MSD,Magnecor, and the Crane wires. If i were to go with the MSD coil should i get the MSD wires to match?
the MSD coil pack puts out the same voltage as stock (40,000 volt) thus there is no change in plug gapping. It's when there's a change in the spark that there needs to be a change in the gap. The Screamin' Demon coil pack puts out 20,000 volt over stock, meaning it puts out 60,000 volts. Stock spark plugs are gapped at .044, the larger voltage requires the change in gap up to .065
The Screamin' Demon recommends that you change the spark plug wires at the same time you install the coil pack. Personally, I'd go with the MSD wires.

the auto parts store where I got my latest set of spark plugs (had switched to Bosch Platinums, which I now know are bad) told me to gap the champions that I purchased @ .035 I have an 02 ATX Neon. what is the correct gap? Also they had recommended autolite wires. Should I be looking to switch again to MSD wires and NGK plugs.
My 04 is definitely .035" Gap as listed on the sticker under the hood. Check yours it should be there. I have ahd experience with vastly upgraded coidl in the past on a 90 Suzuki Swift and installed a Jacobs Electronics Omni Pack and ran a .065 Gap instead of .039" and rand flawlessly.
The idea being a more concentrated chage to bridge the larger gap allowing more complete combustion. If the say to do it I have heard it workd so try it. If it runs funny Start clocing the gaps up. Just remember that when upgrading coils to much improved units the use of weird geometry/material plugs actually are there to make it easier for a stock coil to fire so you may actually get better performance with say a Champion STANDARD plugs.
So in review if you put say Double Platinum (Which is DIS approved and recommended) you may get long service life but the 2 fine poind make it easier to fire and thus not taking full advantage of the new coild power. If you arc over at 45KV then that is what you get. But if you have a tandard plug you may actually arc over at 52KV and actually get a better spark and more complete burn allowing more fuel and thus more HP. So if you are going to use screaming deamon coils to increase engine performance I would stay with Champion, Autolite, etc. copper core plugs. Not even NGK V-Power as the 2 tips on the center electrode will reduce voltage requirement for arcover. No irdium or what ever. If you are not looking for max HP performance just long term reliability and smoothness in a daily driver situation then Double platinum plugs would be probably ideal.
Hope this helps

Best combination to use is a Screamin Demon Coil with Crane wires.
Really? Hmmm, I was just about to buy the MSD wires. I was under the impression that those were best. But hey, you probably know your stuff, so I'm trusting your judgement.
