All season tires, are really only 3 season tires, at best. Though, I can't justify the cost of buying a whole new set of winter tires for a tiny bit of added safety. Often, it's only me in the car, and I don't drive all that crazy, my driving habits are pretty defensive compared to many drivers around me. And no, I don't drive 30 km/h under the speed limit as soon as I see a speck of snow. Not that I'd have to worry anyways, there's not a whole lot of it where I am either.

Well whyte69, since were both hailing from the same part of the world our snow should be about the same depth :-)

Being close to 45 I have driven front wheel and of course rear wheel drive vehicles. I've never had any problems getting around on all-seasons with either drive. Even back in the late 70's-early 80's I had a Camaro with all seasons. Now granted they were a bit wider than the average tire but drove through winter with no problems. I, like yourself am not an aggressive driver. I'm a 10kms over type but not aggressive. And I too have a problem buying a whole set of tires for something that I will need maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Once the roads are graded and sanded, there generally isn't a problem.

I have driven in snow up to the bumper. It was a little hard to get moving as I had all-season/ borderline performance tires on.
