New 05 SXT. Exhaust?
Just got a new neon SXT, with 20k miles. I love it.
I dont love the exhaust, its too silent, would like something slightly more egressive.
How do you think a catback made for a Subaru WRX STi would sound? I can custom fab it to work. Plus, i love the sound of the 2.0 subarus that have it.
Good idea?

There engines are different then ours. We have an inline 4 and they have a horizontally opposed 4 cyclinder. Thats why theirs sound different. I would advise you against getting an STI exhaust. None of the hangers will be welded in the right spot, flanges won't be right, gaskets won't work, etc. What type of exhaust do you want? Single pipe? Dual tip? There are plenty of options out there for you. Hell...if you want a melon shooter like they have WRX/STIs I can tell you where to get one of those for a neon....lol.
Nah, thanks, i know where to get mufflers, it isnt like this is my first car modding. I also have a 91 trans am, a 1991 subaru legacy, and a jeep.
I also know how to weld, so that wouldnt be a problem.
And, thanks for the offer for the info, but you answered me. I just thought those wrx's sound nice and mean, and was wondering if i could get a simular sound with a WRX catback w/ cat. I was thinking that both cars are a 4banger w/ a 2.0l. Forgot to take into account that one is a boxer engine, one is an inline 4.
Maybe ill try it anyway? who knows, nobody has done it, because they thought it wont work apparently. If i do it, and it does sound simular being the same displacement and all. The cam is most likely different, so, it will sound different, But with a #12 cam that ill eventually put in with the new ECU, who knows.
Thanks, ill keep you all updated with info/pictures, as well as any questions that i cant find threw search.

The STI exhuast is not gonna sound like an STI on a neon. What makes the sound is a combination of the motor (the main thing), and the exhuast system. You can put a SRT-4 exhuast on a regular neon and it will work, but it will be loud as hell and sound like ****. Borla makes a nice sounding exhuast for the 2nd gen and there are many others out there.
Here is an easy step. Get the stock exhasut off of an srt-4. That is extremely aggresive sounding. I have an 04 sxt and that is what I did and let me tell you the sound alone is enough to intimidate ppl. Do not use the stock resinator or like CASPER said it will sound like ****. Either get an aftermarket one or skip it like me that way you get the best performance out of it as possible.
So an 05 SRT-4 exhaust will bolt up to a 05 SXT ? My brother is doing a "cat back" on his 05 SRT-4 and I wasn't sure if I could use his take-off on my 05 SXT. Do I have to cut the rear facia for the tips? Whats the scoop on the resinators?
