5W30 is what the factory recommends unless the car is driven in hotter climates, then 10W30 is the choice.

ANY oil weight can be used in your car. The 5w-30 preference from the factory is for optimum fuel economy and compensation for temperature. For a stock neon who is strictly racing or wants more fuel effiencency I'd recomend Mobil 1 0-20 or 0-40 the lightest weights. Amsoil also has rather good light weight oils. For engines that have more modifications (such as turbo, super charger, stroker kit, cam, lifters, rockers, etc...) causing your engine temperatures to be higher, I'd recomend going with 10w-40 at your highest unless you are running a turbo with a stock copper radiator then I'd boot you up to a 20-50 or staight 30 weight. Through my own research and other individual lab results, Royal Purple is the best synthetic oil I have seen. It's molecular structure is much smaller than the others and it fills in microsopic scuffs on the bearings, crank, and other moving parts. On our 2002 Mercury Mountaineer it has a didgital instant and average fuel economy. Driving the same route to and from work, Royal Purple has given me the highest gas milage... granted it is within 1 or 2 miles per gallon than amsoil or Mobil 1. Amsoil was the leading developer of sythentic oils in the 1960s for NASA and other space organizations. Due to it's long record and inovations, I would recomend Amsoil as my second choice. (only up to their 7,500 mile oil) anything past 7,500 miles the filter element starts to break down therefore needing another filter and quart of oil.

Like I said I recomend Royal Purple personally. It's what works best for me. Out of curiousity how many miles do you have on your engine and at what milage did you start using synthetic? Only reason I ask is because motors with over 75,000 miles and sythetic don't USUALLY mix. Synthetic oil is naturally detergent, so if your petrolium oil finda a hole in your gaskets, it will gum up and clog up the hole. Sythetic usually cleans and gets rid of the dirt exposing the hole and leaks.

Quaker State? That's the worst oil out there. I've heard a lot of serious stories about that oil.

I use Amsoil 100% synthetic.
