Default cigerette socket/radar

I barely bought a radar detector and for some reason when i connected the radar detector into the cigarette socket, it didnt turn on. Im guessing the cigarette socket is not working since the radar is new. How could i go about checking whats wrong with the cigarette socket or fixing it, and why it does not give power[:@]? thanks.

you might wanna try wiggling the plug while its in the socket...it might not be making good contact...but if you wana test it you could always see if the push in cigarette light part works...or get a voltage tester...the negative is the side wall of the outlet..and the center inside the outlet(should be copper i think) is the positive...

You've probably already done this, but, just to be sure... have you made sure the ignition is on and engine is running when you plug it in? This isn't a GM car, so the power socket will be disconnected and not provide power if the ignition isn't in the ON or "accessory" position (GM and I think Ford cars always power the socket no matter what).

You probably don't have a cigarette lighter unless you opted for the "smoker's package" (the outlet is just labeled as "power outlet" otherwise). You could also check the fuse for the outlet and see if it's blown or not.

Yep. Mine just says its a "power outlet". I have tried it with the car running and nothing. I tried the whole wiggling thing as well. But ill go check the fuse right now. thanks

I went to check the fuses and they are all working. I went through the covers, since they say what fuse is for what and i found none on the cigarette lighter socket, is there any other fuse that will relate to the cigarette lighter? I checked in both the fuse boxes under the hood and inside next to the door. thanks.

the cigarrette lighter fuse is in the engine compartment i blew mine a few times so its very possible that that is the problem. take out the fuse and inspect it good cuz it might look fine and be burnt out
