If you get the scheduled maintenence on it and make sure you get that oil changed every 3000 miles, and you don't "abuse" it, you will get at least 250-300K on it, maybe more My hubby owned a 1985 Turismo and gave it to his father(now retired Dodge mechanic) and once he was done with it he wanted to give it back to us. It was still running and it had 250+K on it. The only thing wrong with it was the body was rotting on it. So we let him sell it to someone who really needed a car. My 1990 Daytona has 143K on it right now and she still goes. The car even kept running even when I cracked the head on it at 119K. Dodge knows how to build an engine, but if only they would get defect in the rotors right. The factory rotors warp and it's NOT under warranty. This goes for any Dodge. If you buy a Neon, do yourself a favor and get the rotors replaced with Bendix rotors if you feel even the slightest of pulsation. Dodge will deny a problem and will make you pay to have it fixed with yet another set of defective rotors. We went through this with our 97 Neon, 98 Dakota, and now the 05 Neon(the salesman lied to us and told us the problem was fixed). There are many posts throughout the internet addressing this defect. My Daytona had the same problem when I took it to Dodge to replace the rotors and my mechanic changed them out. Not a problem since I switched to the Bendix. Also, you may want to look up and recalls regarding the model you plan on buying. Just type, for example, "2005 Dodge Neon recalls" in your keyword box of your homepage, and it will tell you any recalls and possible problems you may encounter with that car. I did this with my Daytona since I was the second owner and I wanted to make sure the recalls were fixed, which they were. Hope this helps you.

if you live south of minnesota, i would say 200,000mile, north of that ( like i am, 150,000 before stuff starts to really rust and you need to replace lots of stuff)

my 95 plymouth neon has over 234,000 and its had its share of careness and abuse (as in not changing the oil until 20,000 miles after it was changed...) and it still isn't burning or leaking any oil.

According to MSN Autos, a 2003 Neon is given a reliabilty and overall quality rating of 8.4, and that same year Civic has a rating of 8.6. So its not much different, and the 2nd gen Neons are much much more reliable than the early 1st gens were. So i would say Neon because they are very cheap and comparable in every way to a Civic (except the civic will cost $3k-$5k more).
