Default ebay CAI question

I bought a kit off of ebay that appears to be fairly typical. It has a bend to get from the manifold to the TB and then a piece that goes from the TB thorugh the fender where toe filter is. There are two holes in this piece, one for what I believe to be the air temp sensor. Ive seen people talk about using a gromit to hole it in. DONE. The other has a tube welded to it and is very close to where it goes though the fender. It would appear to be where the breather should be connected via a provided silicon hose. But the pipe that is welded to the main tube is super short. Doesn't seem to be designed for a hose clamp.
1. Anyone else have this experience?
There's also s rubber plug looking thing that came with it. No idea what thats for. Has brass threads comming out of it and has a hex shape on the ends. Also the mounting bracket doesn't seem to fit quite right (had to put some a$$[:@] behind it to get it to line up.
2. What is the function of the other hose that plugs into the TB. Just curious, that reconected fine.
3. I have an ACR style bumper (no fog lights) so from looking through the vent I can say I'm going to get pleanty of good air. But it looks like it could get wet in heavy rain. They claim it won't but I'm skeptical.

Thanks for any info,

I call those cold water intakes. All of them K&N, cheapies, and so on. Just don't hit the puddles.

Pretty vague anser man. What makes the good ones different? No puttle is going to be deep enough th go straight through the vent and the filter is protected from the fenderwell so there shouldn't be water comming off the tire. What brand do you have? How does it differ?

I'm interested in finding out if you ran an intake hose all the way down to one of the foglights, what would happen in the snow, probably not a good idea, right?

Probably not. Snow could pack in there and smuther the motor, or melt and possibly hydraulic lock it. If you are looking for a ram air effect this was beat to death on another forum I was part of. Some good testing was done and legimate pressure flow theory applied. Ram air effect doesn't work well on a flat front surface of a vehicle (At the sruface the velocity is almost zero). You need velosity. That's why it's often at the front edge of a relatively horizontal hood and not just a big hole in the bumper. I'm happy just getting good cool air with no restrictions. But I want it to be safe.

Ok, this is my first neon, and I'm intersted in tooling around with it, so can someone post their intakes?

I wasn't saying the more expencive ones are any better as far as keeping water out. so no matter which route you take just be carefull.

OK. Solved a few things. The plug looking thing was actually an isolator for the mounting bracket. That raised the filter about 1 inch and will help keep the whole thing hooked to the engine. I think I have the hose clamp close enough to the base of the breather tube that it will not come off. Time will tell. Still no word from anyone as to the function of the tube that goes toe the throttle body. To JamsonC: I don't have a lot of experience with filters other than K&N but I have to say that the filter that came with this kit (OBX) seems to be a quality piece. I think beyond that fit and finish will be the key. I got mine for 50 bucks so I'm expecting a little more hasle than the AEM verson. Look's like it fits pretty good. Haven't had a chance to hear it yet, other than the sucking noise in the garage. Looing forward to it.
